I have a podcast, Improper Mimi, where we talk about empowering women at home, work, and play. So All those, you know, bags you're juggling and all the stress you're having and all the success you're having and all the failures you're going through, we really have a safe space for women to talk about, you know, those things that, you know, get them through the day so that we can have empowered other women as well. So yeah. So that is my passion. That is what I love to do so, you know, show little girls and young women and old women too that, You know, no matter your age, you know, there's still, you know, some purpose to your life, something that, others can learn from you.

Mimi Jacks [00:03:47]:

So your story is very important, And I love to share stories.

Raphael Harry [00:03:52]:

Awesome. Awesome.

Mimi Jacks [00:03:53]:

And most of them are true.

Corey Gumbs [00:03:54]:

Yep. Yeah. Just a

Raphael Harry [00:04:33]:

Raphael Harry [00:04:37]:

Corey Gumbs [00:04:52]:

Raphael Harry [00:04:52]:

But,

Corey Gumbs [00:04:53]:

Yes. Yeah. I'm just I'm just Corey Gumbs, the founder of the Black Podcast Association. You know, I work with black podcasters and professionals to help, create a safe space and a community where they can come and network support and

Mimi Jacks [00:05:06]:

Mhmm.

Corey Gumbs [00:05:06]:

And become better podcasters.

Mimi Jacks [00:05:09]:

Excellent.

Raphael Harry [00:05:09]:

Awesome. Awesome. So we are having fun today. You know? It's a very relaxed episode, and all our episodes are relaxed. But, you know, today, this is more relaxed than usual.

Corey Gumbs [00:05:21]:

Mhmm.

Raphael Harry [00:05:22]:

So we're going straight into it. What are you Thankful for, you know, what what are you most thankful for? You know, thanksgiving.

Mimi Jacks [00:05:32]:

Well, I mean, I am a Scorpio, so I'm very thankful for this.

Raphael Harry [00:05:37]:

Name, a scorpion?

Mimi Jacks [00:05:38]:

Yeah. Scorpio. You know, we're very loving. We very we're we're a little protective. You know? We don't really and poisonous. Provoked. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:05:45]:

Yeah. Yeah. And poisonous. Damn shit.

Raphael Harry [00:05:47]:

They always copy on script. They always forget that part. Yeah. I mean, we're not poisonous to ourselves. I mean, I don't think so.

Corey Gumbs [00:05:53]:

Everybody else. I mean,

Raphael Harry [00:05:56]:

you had the story of the frog carrying a scorpion on his back across the river. Right?

Corey Gumbs [00:06:01]:

I've heard that one.

Mimi Jacks [00:06:03]:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've heard it too. Yeah. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:06:05]:

Sure you have. It was it

Raphael Harry [00:06:07]:

was perfect. RIP.

Mimi Jacks [00:06:08]:

Yes. But what I'm thankful for, you know, is, You know, being here with you guys, you know, being here to start another new year. Yeah. And, You know, I really am thankful for the opportunities that I've had to just be myself. And I'd say that throughout these 48 years of life. You know? Getting to know yourself is a journey. You know? So it's not just, I'm the same person I was when I was, you know, 13 or 23 or 33. But life keeps throwing different things at you and how you react to them really, you know, is is really a product of how you've been shaped throughout your life.

Mimi Jacks [00:06:55]:

So, I mean, I'm thankful that I still have a positive outlook on life, and I come with a smile. And, you know, I think that's something that people sometimes take for granted, you know, the happiness and joy that I feel when I wake up. So, You know, thankful for each day and waking up.

Raphael Harry [00:07:15]:

Hey. Yeah. That's right.

Corey Gumbs [00:07:19]:

So I got something next. I believe so, Corey. These are the questions I typically like to avoid because I just like to avoid them. But, So some trapped here, and I'm held hostage against my own will. No. You know, I'm thankful for this experience that I've had the past Two and a half, 3 years going 3 years with just building my organization. It has been challenge. It has been ups and downs.

Corey Gumbs [00:07:46]:

It has been a personal challenge. Mhmm. As many times, Zach was ready to hit the leap and shut everything down. No more. But, it's just helped me grow as a person, you know, interacting with you people like yourselves and just Those times where I think things are gonna fail and then they, you know, they turn out to be way better than I expected. It's just been like you said, maybe, like, at 46, I'm learning who I am, Truly am now. And I kinda had an idea, but being more comfortable Yeah. And being more confident.

Corey Gumbs [00:08:14]:

So this has helped me be, you know, It's helped me it's helped me calm down too because I used to be wilding out. So

Raphael Harry [00:08:22]:

It's true.

Corey Gumbs [00:08:22]:

You know? I'm thankful for this whole experience and just and just the way things have been going. And every time I've had a challenge, I figured out a solution and rose to the occasion. So Mhmm. This is running the community, working with you guys, and doing the things we've been doing. It's just helped me Learn and get more confident in that. So Right. And the whiskey's talking.

Mimi Jacks [00:08:48]:

Thankful for whiskey. Thank for so much. You know, I need to go to Scotland. I think I need to go on a world tour.

Raphael Harry [00:08:54]:

And I know you were somebody in, Edinburgh, if you me and

Corey Gumbs [00:08:58]:

my cousins. Because I wanna I wanna I wanna

Raphael Harry [00:09:00]:

have family also in Edinburgh.

Mimi Jacks [00:09:02]:

Well, I

Raphael Harry [00:09:03]:

Do I know somebody in Glasgow who might give you a better time than my family in Edinburgh, our family

Corey Gumbs [00:09:09]:

So the red part of my beard from what I was told on my father's side is Related to Scotland, so I probably have some connections there. But I wanna go from from the Guinness. I wanna go from Guinness to Scotland and get some scotch. I'm with you

Mimi Jacks [00:09:21]:

on that one. Let's roll out. We could do a Black Podcast

Raphael Harry [00:09:25]:

Association world tour. And I got family like Harry's, A bunch of Harry's And I want and

Corey Gumbs [00:09:30]:

I wanna go to the filming movies.

Mimi Jacks [00:09:31]:

Nice sweaters, you know, from, like, the sheep, you know, fur.

Raphael Harry [00:09:35]:

The the well, Glasgow might. Well, both of them might. Yeah. My my my first cousins. Let's go.

Corey Gumbs [00:09:44]:

Yeah. I just gotta do 2 things. I gotta go to where, like, the filming locations of Skyfall, And then I gotta get me a kilt, and I gotta go and I gotta yell, that I'm from the Connor McLeod, you know, the Clan McLeod. I gotta do that.

Raphael Harry [00:09:59]:

Glasgow might be the guy for that.

Corey Gumbs [00:10:01]:

Know. They might hate me for that, but, you know, my wife

Mimi Jacks [00:10:03]:

be good content.

Corey Gumbs [00:10:04]:

As well.

Raphael Harry [00:10:05]:

The Glasgow guy might be might be the one for

Corey Gumbs [00:10:07]:

that. Okay.

Raphael Harry [00:10:08]:

He he he's more fun. He he

Corey Gumbs [00:10:10]:

would do that. And I gotta give him a kilt. I gotta give him a kilt. Oh.

Raphael Harry [00:10:13]:

Yeah. He killed him a kilt.

Mimi Jacks [00:10:15]:

Heritage. Right?

Raphael Harry [00:10:16]:

My cousins, They're, they're they're very by the book.

Mimi Jacks [00:10:20]:

Really? They'll they'll walk through. Nothing under their kilts?

Corey Gumbs [00:10:24]:

Oh, well, they And just let ladies know I will file sexual harassment charges against you whenever I get my kill.

Mimi Jacks [00:10:31]:

No. Come on. Please. You gotta do it for the cause. You know? It's reparations for everything that we've been through.

Raphael Harry [00:10:37]:

I don't know about that with my cousins because they're very, very they they they are evangelicals too.

Mimi Jacks [00:10:42]:

So Oh, yes.

Raphael Harry [00:10:43]:

Yeah. Okay. I don't I don't I try to be up, like, that

Corey Gumbs [00:10:46]:

ain't happening with those ones. You know?

Raphael Harry [00:10:48]:

But my Glasgow dude, yes.

Mimi Jacks [00:10:51]:

Yeah. That sounds like our Connect for it.

Raphael Harry [00:10:53]:

We have to talk

Corey Gumbs [00:10:53]:

about this in 2024 in the beginning off-camera.

Mimi Jacks [00:10:57]:

Right. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:11:00]:

So, Mhmm. What am I thankful for? Lots of things, actually. Well, you know, family. You know, my little one continues to turn into a teenager before my eyes. I'm like, yeah. Okay. Can This be gonna

Corey Gumbs [00:11:19]:

happen faster than you know.

Mimi Jacks [00:11:21]:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:11:21]:

But, it's fun. It's fun. We, you know, saw more movies this year, and, I actually saw them, the Marvels.

Mimi Jacks [00:11:30]:

Oh, recently? Yeah. Good.

Raphael Harry [00:11:32]:

And, yeah, she was the number of questions that she got is like, god Dang. That's cute.

Mimi Jacks [00:11:39]:

It's like you encourage them, and when they actually start thinking for themselves, it's like,

Corey Gumbs [00:11:43]:

what did I create? Right. We get to the masses.

Raphael Harry [00:11:46]:

This is good, though. This is good. This is good. Oh. You know? And, It's just beautiful watching that journey, seeing a little human being grow, and, she's already surpassed at at this age, and it's beautiful seeing that Mhmm. And that is the experience. And It's something that I'll I'll always be proud of. You know? I I I get it.

Raphael Harry [00:12:13]:

I get it when people say it's their greatest creation. So it's their kids. And I'm like, yeah. I get it now. You know? I get it. So, I'm thankful for, my partner. You know? She's It's not easy to have somebody supportive of you doing, you know, broadcasting and, you know, being there and understanding when I need to go record. If I Get a last-minute recording.

Raphael Harry [00:12:36]:

You know? She makes adjustments for me. So, yeah, She makes it work when, you know, our our we we make it work both ways. So, it's just great to have something like that in my life. You know? So Yeah. I'm also thankful for Afros and audio. It was a great experience this year. I gotta try new things that I haven't tried. No.

Raphael Harry [00:13:01]:

I haven't interviewed people at a conference before. I got to do a lot of that. You know? That's something I've never you know? Yeah. The stuff that I played in my head multiple times, and, you know, It's like, come on. I can do it. It's not like I'm it's not really in the studio. I can interview people.

Corey Gumbs [00:13:20]:

I for thankful to you for that because I didn't know how I was gonna do everything, so I'm glad you signed Help me with that.

Raphael Harry [00:13:26]:

It's

Mimi Jacks [00:13:26]:

no shame in asking for help.

Raphael Harry [00:13:28]:

That's awesome. Yeah. But I had a great time doing it.

Corey Gumbs [00:13:32]:

It's

Raphael Harry [00:13:34]:

it was So much fun. And, being with family and friends, that's just my family reunion, you know, right there. Even though I got to meet my nemesis.

Mimi Jacks [00:13:44]:

Oh. I

Raphael Harry [00:13:45]:

I tried recording with her. The audio might not be as perfect as you guys Wait.

Mimi Jacks [00:13:50]:

Did you try to record with your nemesis?

Raphael Harry [00:13:52]:

Oh, yes.

Corey Gumbs [00:13:52]:

That's right, baby. You weren't there.

Mimi Jacks [00:13:54]:

No. What happened? Is this something we

Corey Gumbs [00:13:56]:

could talk about?

Raphael Harry [00:13:56]:

Shout out to Paula. Shout out to Walla. Hey. How are you? Josh listens to the recording. He was like, man, this guy can talk. God.

Corey Gumbs [00:14:06]:

I'll send you some of the footage.

Raphael Harry [00:14:08]:

It's, yeah, I I we did a virtual recording from home. I thought it was I budgeted 2 hours at most. It was, like, over 3 hours. I was like, yeah. I tried.

Mimi Jacks [00:14:19]:

Boundaries, right, boundaries. Just for

Corey Gumbs [00:14:21]:

just for the audience and everybody watching, His relationship with Paul is kinda of like, when in a stepbrother when they realized they were best friends. Did we just become best friends? Yep. I've watched it develop and

Raphael Harry [00:14:33]:

come into fruition. So as much

Corey Gumbs [00:14:35]:

as he talks to his nemesis, they're like best friends.

Mimi Jacks [00:14:38]:

Okay. Okay. That makes me

Raphael Harry [00:14:39]:

feel better because I have a real nemesis is that was a nemesis. Yes. It started from I because, look, there was East African representation this time, which is something that I was so happy to see. Uh-huh.

Corey Gumbs [00:14:53]:

And I

Raphael Harry [00:14:53]:

knew she wasn't West African. And I'm great at guessing where people are from, Uh-huh. But her last name threw me off. It was a last name that could be Eastern, it could be Southern, and I couldn't figure it out. The clothes that she gave me threw me off too, and I made what was one of the rare times where I got the place wrong. And, oh my goodness, she won't let me she tore

Mimi Jacks [00:15:18]:

into me. Get it.

Raphael Harry [00:15:19]:

She hit me from the right, left, on the and, you know, she like this tall. She mentioned as tall as this table. And then the uppercuts were, like, Mike Tyson's uppercuts. I was like, okay. Okay.

Corey Gumbs [00:15:29]:

The whole whole African contingent Was just, like, going at each other. It is

Raphael Harry [00:15:34]:

I was, like, you it's Africa. What's the what?

Corey Gumbs [00:15:36]:

No. Because it made me realize. It was like, okay. They're not much different than us. You know how, like, you can put your friends there, right, just start Clowning each other.

Mimi Jacks [00:15:42]:

Yeah. They

Corey Gumbs [00:15:42]:

would and I just love watching them. To show up. Okay?

Raphael Harry [00:15:45]:

That's why I've been telling them to show up because when they show up, you know, people People need to see that because when people see that, they realize that, okay. Because I'm I'm like, it's 54 countries.

Mimi Jacks [00:15:52]:

Because everybody represents the

Raphael Harry [00:15:54]:

same world. 4 they all have their way of you know, we all talk They all speak for each other because a lot of people keep saying it's like well, they say, oh,

Corey Gumbs [00:16:01]:

I've been to Yeah. It's like Queen versus Brooklyn. I've been

Raphael Harry [00:16:03]:

so I've been to Africa. I'm like, no. You have only been to No. You haven't been to you haven't seen how the other guys do their own thing, and then when they meet the other guys, they're, oh, you know,

Mimi Jacks [00:16:10]:

I I

Raphael Harry [00:16:10]:

do it. I might but I mean, at the same time, this is how I'm like, yeah. K. Okay. Yeah. So all

Corey Gumbs [00:16:16]:

you gotta do ever do just ask about Jollof Rice, and then just let it

Raphael Harry [00:16:20]:

let it go. Already know.

Mimi Jacks [00:16:21]:

Jollof Rice is

Raphael Harry [00:16:22]:

that's actually lame. That's that That's more recent, to be honest. Oh, okay. I got I know how to hit them. You know? Like, I was hitting some buzzer. He was like, oh, man. No. I was hitting all of them.

Raphael Harry [00:16:33]:

I watched Tom and Jerry growing up, so I'm not a hit I'm

Corey Gumbs [00:16:36]:

not a hit people. The right way. So you so that relationship with your nemesis wasn't really, have just her might have been partly because of you.

Raphael Harry [00:16:44]:

Oh. She had she all she had to do was just say you made a mistake, And I

Corey Gumbs [00:16:53]:

No. Why?

Mimi Jacks [00:16:53]:

But why should she forgive you? Why?

Raphael Harry [00:16:55]:

Why shouldn't she? I'm The grand

Mimi Jacks [00:16:58]:

supreme to this.

Raphael Harry [00:16:59]:

I'm the grand supreme marshal the 1st grand supreme marshal of Africa.

Corey Gumbs [00:17:04]:

So, you know, I don't you know?

Raphael Harry [00:17:06]:

It's I don't make mistakes. Oh, no. No. No. No. No. No. No.

Raphael Harry [00:17:09]:

Comes to Africa. You know?

Corey Gumbs [00:17:10]:

I will say this. One thing I am thankful for is that thanks to you, Raphael, I got to finally get Senegalese food. Oh. And

Mimi Jacks [00:17:19]:

Do you think that Senegalese food hit in Brooklyn?

Corey Gumbs [00:17:22]:

Look. Yes. I know, but I never that

Raphael Harry [00:17:25]:

have thought about you the English.

Mimi Jacks [00:17:26]:

Yeah. Okay. So you just think

Raphael Harry [00:17:28]:

about that.

Corey Gumbs [00:17:28]:

You know, being in New York, we just have an overabundance of food. It's like you don't think about, like, all the access you have. Yeah. But when I go back to Baltimore

Raphael Harry [00:17:36]:

Oh, we were

Corey Gumbs [00:17:37]:

trying to go back to that place.

Raphael Harry [00:17:39]:

I mean, this place was good. It was good.

Mimi Jacks [00:17:41]:

So clearly, I missed Baltimore.

Raphael Harry [00:17:43]:

You missed you.

Mimi Jacks [00:17:44]:

They They missed

Raphael Harry [00:17:45]:

they missed

Corey Gumbs [00:17:45]:

you. Yeah. I got set to party on start-up. Oh, yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:17:48]:

Oh, yeah. If you were there, I probably would have danced too.

Mimi Jacks [00:17:51]:

You guys didn't dance?

Raphael Harry [00:17:53]:

I did. Well, that that's well, we don't need the listeners don't need to know about it. If you guys wanna know about that, yeah, come next Yeah. You gotta join the studio. You gotta be there. You know? And buy the latest merch and all that. We want

Corey Gumbs [00:18:03]:

you there too. Yeah. We want

Raphael Harry [00:18:04]:

you there. Come come to Afros on Audio in Baltimore, and then you you'll find out if I dance. And then DJ oh, no. He says don't call him DJ. Mister Al Pete, gotta play.

Mimi Jacks [00:18:13]:

Uh-huh. You know?

Raphael Harry [00:18:13]:

Because the other Africans come to complain to me. Like, did y'all play the music? I was like, why are you complaining to me? Like

Mimi Jacks [00:18:18]:

Yeah. Tell the details.

Corey Gumbs [00:18:19]:

Because you're the grand supreme. So right.

Mimi Jacks [00:18:21]:

Yours is

Corey Gumbs [00:18:22]:

part of being a leader. That. That's That's part of you be that's part of you the leader. Paula, Paula. Yeah. No. Paula, please

Raphael Harry [00:18:28]:

do this episode, man. It should go be my inbox. Like, oh, you see?

Mimi Jacks [00:18:31]:

Paula, I can't wait to meet you. I hear you're a wonderful person.

Raphael Harry [00:18:35]:

That that makes she gonna feel too that'll make her feel too special. Go by.

Mimi Jacks [00:18:40]:

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Corey Gumbs [00:18:42]:

To go by my my BFF. My BFF. Oh my god. Shout out to Paula.

Raphael Harry [00:18:48]:

She is based in Atlanta, so all the Nigerians, are spoiled too. You know? Oh, yes. Well, it's not just Atlanta. It's, actually, her story is full of love for Nigerians. I was like, I knew it. Oh. And she was telling us to I was like, I knew this, this, that. Oh, God.

Raphael Harry [00:19:02]:

See, this is the problem. This is the problem.

Corey Gumbs [00:19:04]:

No.

Raphael Harry [00:19:05]:

Okay. But she's awesome. This is a great episode, but I was like, yeah. I'm thankful I'm meeting you. You know? Sambaza is right. You don't count anymore.

Mimi Jacks [00:19:14]:

He's good. He's good.

Raphael Harry [00:19:15]:

Paula took over. East Africa belongs to Paula. You know? I'm generous as a grand supreme leader, so I'll make out my, I'll I'll make out my tenants for East Africa.

Corey Gumbs [00:19:25]:

Mhmm. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:19:25]:

Think about the whole of East Africa.

Mimi Jacks [00:19:27]:

Yes.

Raphael Harry [00:19:28]:

Yeah. And I'm also thankful for democracy winning. Whoo. You know? Whoo. Some people need to hear that. You know? Y'all don't think democracy wins. And, oh, I'm also thankful for what myself and Corey got to experience in 1st UFC fight.

Corey Gumbs [00:19:44]:

I am extremely thankful for that. Wow.

Mimi Jacks [00:19:48]:

Uh-huh. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:19:49]:

Went to UFC 295. At my I

Corey Gumbs [00:19:52]:

was just mad at my boy, John Jones, for that fight that night, man. That that I think for me I mean, I really appreciate what you did, but that would have been the Icing on the cake for me. Because I've completely forgotten about the fight. So when you hit me up, it was like, oh, I got tickets. Do you want them? It's like, yeah. And then I realized when I looked at Carter saw and then I saw you canceled. I was like, man, typical Jon Jones. Going to get hurt in training.

Corey Gumbs [00:20:15]:

You know? But I would have loved to see that. Or him or Israel, you know, Adesanya. That would have been the 2 people. Or my the whole actually, the whole Nigerian contingent.

Raphael Harry [00:20:25]:

Israel, that one.

Mimi Jacks [00:20:26]:

Is Nigerian in the UFC?

Raphael Harry [00:20:27]:

Oh, yeah. There's a bunch of them.

Mimi Jacks [00:20:29]:

Yeah. I am not UFC.

Corey Gumbs [00:20:31]:

What's my other man's name? I forgot his name, man. Usman? It's yeah. Usman. That's only because of the Whiskey.

Raphael Harry [00:20:35]:

Oh, Usman.

Corey Gumbs [00:20:36]:

I would love to see either them or John Jones.

Raphael Harry [00:20:38]:

Usman might him he might have. I've not had him say stupid things like Israel.

Corey Gumbs [00:20:42]:

But that was a great experience. Something that my best friend and I he brought my best friend, and we run it. That was something we always talked about doing, and we always missed the window. But, you know, that was it was long, but it was great. Yeah. It was long, but it

Raphael Harry [00:20:55]:

was, the fights were good. Yeah. Yeah. They was, you know, very jump off

Mimi Jacks [00:20:58]:

the ropes and go.

Raphael Harry [00:20:59]:

No. That's that's Russian.

Corey Gumbs [00:21:00]:

That's Russian.

Mimi Jacks [00:21:01]:

No. Well, this is the kicking.

Corey Gumbs [00:21:03]:

This is UFC. Oh, yeah. UFC. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just take a sip.

Raphael Harry [00:21:11]:

Yeah. This this is is

Corey Gumbs [00:21:12]:

This is real fighting. Yeah. This,

Mimi Jacks [00:21:14]:

Real Right. Yeah. Mhmm. Well, that's why they have to come down and, like, blow you through your head and, like

Corey Gumbs [00:21:19]:

I mean, it's sort of like none of no ropes. Yeah. That's it.

Raphael Harry [00:21:23]:

That's it. Okay.

Mimi Jacks [00:21:23]:

No ropes. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:21:24]:

No ropes like, the

Mimi Jacks [00:21:25]:

But they will they will get you in a headlock

Raphael Harry [00:21:27]:

Yeah. That will be and then put their

Mimi Jacks [00:21:29]:

Tow up your nose, and then you'll die.

Corey Gumbs [00:21:32]:

I don't know about toe-up nose, but yeah. I don't

Raphael Harry [00:21:36]:

know about toe-up nose. But

Corey Gumbs [00:21:37]:

Yeah. But this there was a good it was a it was a bunch of good fights because it was a lot of knockouts. It was a

Mimi Jacks [00:21:43]:

a lot of goodness.

Raphael Harry [00:21:44]:

Well, it went by quickly.

Corey Gumbs [00:21:45]:

I think only a couple fights went to full distance. But

Raphael Harry [00:21:47]:

The first

Corey Gumbs [00:21:48]:

The very first time disappointing knockouts, but it was still good fight.

Raphael Harry [00:21:51]:

Oh, the knockouts were my favorite. Yeah. Because after Orange Man showed up. Oh, yeah. And then

Corey Gumbs [00:21:57]:

we had to prove it to see Orange Man. Wow. Cheeto man as I called him.

Mimi Jacks [00:22:01]:

The orange brigade.

Raphael Harry [00:22:03]:

And and

Mimi Jacks [00:22:03]:

mama pooper.

Corey Gumbs [00:22:04]:

Can I say this? In in the douchebag brigade. You know? Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:22:07]:

It was a whole douche I got to experience what it's like at a rally. Yeah. A 2. Yes.

Corey Gumbs [00:22:14]:

A taste of it. Yes.

Raphael Harry [00:22:15]:

Yeah. Because

Mimi Jacks [00:22:16]:

Did you join in?

Corey Gumbs [00:22:18]:

No. No.

Raphael Harry [00:22:20]:

Because he walked in, and The whole place went

Corey Gumbs [00:22:24]:

He got the loudest cheers out of everything.

Raphael Harry [00:22:27]:

No.

Corey Gumbs [00:22:27]:

He got the loudest cheers. And then when his son was there I don't know you as soon. Did you see the meme with, Bill Burr's wife?

Raphael Harry [00:22:33]:

Yeah. I didn't realize she because I I saw it.

Corey Gumbs [00:22:35]:

I saw it. I saw it. I saw him.

Raphael Harry [00:22:36]:

No. I I saw him there. I Yeah. I saw him because, You know, when Trump walked in, there's a bunch of people who didn't get up. Mhmm. Like myself.

Corey Gumbs [00:22:47]:

Like us. I appreciate that. Okay.

Mimi Jacks [00:22:50]:

Thankful. Thankful.

Raphael Harry [00:22:51]:

You know? Yeah. I told someone to take photos for me. That's the reason why they stood up because my battery was really low. So I say, hey. Get up. Take photos.

Mimi Jacks [00:23:00]:

So the only reason they stood up was taking photos.

Corey Gumbs [00:23:01]:

That's the only reason.

Raphael Harry [00:23:02]:

They weren't cheering.

Mimi Jacks [00:23:03]:

Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:23:04]:

But, when Trump gets to as he's approaching his seat, Jared Leto Doesn't he doesn't commit to standing up, but he's I see his I see his hand come up like, this dude. I'm

Mimi Jacks [00:23:21]:

like this dude. Protocol.

Raphael Harry [00:23:22]:

You better commit. You're either you commit to shaking his hand or you sit down. Why were you smiling? Because you're smiling too. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, oh, look at you. Look at you. He's like, I'm

Mimi Jacks [00:23:32]:

gonna stand it up. But

Raphael Harry [00:23:33]:

Then you see a bunch of people didn't get up, and I didn't real I So, Bill Burr had it like, he is he, like, he was, like, laughing, sitting down. I didn't realize that his wife already flipped, Trump at that moment.

Corey Gumbs [00:23:45]:

I think she was doing the same time I was doing it because I was flipping the bird too. Oh. Oh,

Raphael Harry [00:23:50]:

he couldn't see you, man.

Corey Gumbs [00:23:51]:

Yeah. But I was doing I don't care. I wanted the people around us to

Raphael Harry [00:23:55]:

Oh, okay. Okay. Because you know

Corey Gumbs [00:23:56]:

I was instigated. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:23:58]:

Because I started out like, man, this was weird. And then after that, The next 2 fights had an American fighting, someone else from

Corey Gumbs [00:24:08]:

Everybody from New York lost. Oh, they're back.

Raphael Harry [00:24:11]:

The crazy thing was that, nah, the whole crowd's like, USA. USA. I was like, I don't

Corey Gumbs [00:24:15]:

Especially the Frenchmen.

Raphael Harry [00:24:17]:

Yeah. Well, and Against the fact that he was the first fight. That was the very first fight.

Corey Gumbs [00:24:21]:

He everybody was screaming USA with him, and he knocked out my guy from Long Island.

Raphael Harry [00:24:25]:

Oh, I I was that was, like, my face.

Corey Gumbs [00:24:27]:

Kind of the pinnacle of it because I was And he was you know, he did the neck you know, the thing across his neck, like, That, you know, like yeah. I mean, you know, I I couldn't even be mad at him.

Raphael Harry [00:24:35]:

But I I told you before that fight began because the Long Island guy Brought an Air National Guard general, a black dude

Corey Gumbs [00:24:43]:

Yes.

Raphael Harry [00:24:44]:

With him, and I was like, why you bring an Air National Guard? That's Yeah. So you

Corey Gumbs [00:24:47]:

just said, I don't, you know, do the military stuff.

Raphael Harry [00:24:49]:

Because it was veterans day, and you bring in

Mimi Jacks [00:24:52]:

the Air National Guard. Okay.

Raphael Harry [00:24:54]:

I'm like, that's like, that that's next thing to air force. So, air force play golf. So air national guard is probably chess. Uh-huh. You should have brought, you know, if you have brought navy, I was gonna be on the line.

Mimi Jacks [00:25:05]:

Really, you know,

Raphael Harry [00:25:06]:

man up. You know you

Corey Gumbs [00:25:08]:

know what's the crazy part about that?

Mimi Jacks [00:25:09]:

I thought navy was wishy washy. He likes

Raphael Harry [00:25:11]:

we we got some we we we got we're not a

Corey Gumbs [00:25:13]:

Depends on who you talk to.

Mimi Jacks [00:25:14]:

Yeah. Okay. Okay.

Corey Gumbs [00:25:16]:

Now now

Raphael Harry [00:25:16]:

if you're an air force listening and you get mad or you're air national guard, Just buy my merch before you

Corey Gumbs [00:25:21]:

do that. Burn the buy the merch and

Raphael Harry [00:25:23]:

burn it.

Corey Gumbs [00:25:24]:

Burn it.

Mimi Jacks [00:25:24]:

And then burn it.

Raphael Harry [00:25:25]:

Burn the

Corey Gumbs [00:25:25]:

and well If you gotta do it in that order, buy the merch and then burn it.

Mimi Jacks [00:25:29]:

Well, I mean, I grew up. My high school was next to a air force base, so I know a lot of base heads. You know? They all, you know,

Raphael Harry [00:25:35]:

came to the table with us.

Corey Gumbs [00:25:36]:

With the the military lingo. Because in my language, base has been something completely different.

Mimi Jacks [00:25:41]:

Base has been something else.

Corey Gumbs [00:25:42]:

I grew up in New York City in the eighties nineties. Base had been something completely different.

Raphael Harry [00:25:46]:

That don't

Mimi Jacks [00:25:47]:

have any well, you have Hamilton. But are there any other basses?

Corey Gumbs [00:25:50]:

No. No. We we had other types of basses.

Raphael Harry [00:25:52]:

Well, yeah. Yeah. Y'all had other basses. Y'all had basses on the corner. You know?

Corey Gumbs [00:25:55]:

So we gotta we gotta give context Stay safe. Yep. Yeah. I think for me, the dope part of the night was, though, Nick Diaz came up in

Raphael Harry [00:26:02]:

the crowd. Oh, yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:26:04]:

Was the big one.

Raphael Harry [00:26:05]:

Yeah. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:26:05]:

And I'll you know, you gotta love the Diaz brothers. You know how just just they just don't care for the people.

Raphael Harry [00:26:12]:

So that was that was

Corey Gumbs [00:26:13]:

So I thank you for that too.

Raphael Harry [00:26:14]:

That was cool. Appreciate it. See them. It was a cool experience. And the crazy thing on that, I thought the whole crowd was all pro Trump. Mhmm. And with all the the because they were booing The any fighter was fighting on American. And then after the those guys knocked out the Americans because both Americans were knocked out, knocked out clean.

Mimi Jacks [00:26:33]:

Ash.

Raphael Harry [00:26:35]:

And then instead of cheering for the the fighters, and I was like, is this a New York thing where they're like because anytime Trump was shown on the screen, he got Yeah. The loudest cheer. Even it got to a point where my guy stopped, You know, because Trumbull, he would do the feast every time they show him on this on on the screen, and the crowd would cheer, whoo. And then it the like, the 5th time because

Mimi Jacks [00:26:53]:

And it is not doubt

Raphael Harry [00:26:54]:

by the way. One time, and everyone's quiet. I was like, damn, Jared. Is it is this from your last movie or for for work? People don't like it.

Mimi Jacks [00:27:04]:

Nobody wanted to discuss that.

Raphael Harry [00:27:06]:

Hey, Jared. If you wanna come on the podcast and talk about it, I don't know. I don't know. Because I heard you don't watch Feats.

Corey Gumbs [00:27:11]:

He makes good music, though.

Raphael Harry [00:27:12]:

Yeah. Yeah. I like I like his music. I like 32nd music. I ain't gonna lie, but well, you can come. You can come, but I don't know, man. I don't know. But It's it's kinda Nicole Kidman thing I told you before.

Raphael Harry [00:27:22]:

Yeah. He he in that category too.

Mimi Jacks [00:27:24]:

We're not that impressed.

Raphael Harry [00:27:25]:

So yeah. Yeah. So, The last time they showed Trump, Trump didn't it's like dude got tired of them. Like, why you guys keep showing me? He was You know? He's like, you showed me 3, 4 times. I've shown my fist. Why Let me tell you. Go show somebody else. I was like, damn

Corey Gumbs [00:27:41]:

the brothers, and they they they hollers for that too.

Raphael Harry [00:27:44]:

Mhmm. Yeah. But he but Trump got loudest chair. Yeah. And but so I I I was thinking that only America fighters is gonna, like, be getting the chair. So if you beat an American fighter, they won't cheer for it, but the crowd was changed. The chair for the fight, I was at at the end of the knockouts, like, when the fight I was leaving through, I was like, it was a New York thing.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:02]:

Yeah. Just the violence. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:28:04]:

So I'm like, man, this place, this this US is I I I I was

Corey Gumbs [00:28:08]:

like,

Raphael Harry [00:28:09]:

I was like, there was a combination because that's when it became comedy to me.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:12]:

I was

Raphael Harry [00:28:12]:

like, okay. There's a combination of New York vibes here. There's a combination of For Trump, there's combination of the violence, everything. It was all mixed in here, but it was good to witness that and see it in person. I said, okay. I've seen it.

Mimi Jacks [00:28:27]:

That sounds like quite the experience.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:28]:

I don't know

Raphael Harry [00:28:29]:

if I wanna come back in.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:30]:

That was it was a great experience.

Raphael Harry [00:28:31]:

But it was great. Yeah. Yeah. But the fights were quick, and I asked I could tell who's gonna lose. My man lost the last fight too. Sorry. Kyrie didn't want to the president didn't want to win.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:44]:

The no. The fight was called too early.

Mimi Jacks [00:28:46]:

Oh, so he had a chance. He

Raphael Harry [00:28:47]:

got Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:48]:

He had a chance.

Raphael Harry [00:28:48]:

He didn't, but we didn't charge. He

Corey Gumbs [00:28:50]:

was he

Raphael Harry [00:28:50]:

was out.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:51]:

No. He he was saved.

Raphael Harry [00:28:53]:

He was

Corey Gumbs [00:28:53]:

saved because he said he'd fallen back because he fell into the guy, so he was holding on to him.

Raphael Harry [00:28:57]:

Uh-huh.

Corey Gumbs [00:28:58]:

But the ref called it too early.

Raphael Harry [00:28:59]:

Yeah. He was out.

Corey Gumbs [00:29:00]:

Yeah. No. He wasn't out.

Raphael Harry [00:29:02]:

He he thought his samurai hair was that dude, come on. Get out of here. That samurai hair. He from Czech Republic. Why you got a samurai hair? Don't

Mimi Jacks [00:29:11]:

hate the mess. Have it.

Raphael Harry [00:29:12]:

The Long Island guy had braids too. I was like, is he a white guy, or is he an alb albino? I I was confused. Corey said, he ain't Viking. I said, why why they got Vikings in Long Island?

Mimi Jacks [00:29:22]:

Is that Brits?

Raphael Harry [00:29:23]:

Yeah. By from Long Island. Yeah. You know Viking from Long Island. You're Viking. You're from Scandinavia. Go go go to Scandinavia. Get out of here from Long Island.

Raphael Harry [00:29:32]:

I I knew he was gonna be knocked out. I was like, this guy gonna lose.

Mimi Jacks [00:29:35]:

He was playing the part.

Corey Gumbs [00:29:36]:

And he lost terribly.

Raphael Harry [00:29:37]:

Knockout.

Corey Gumbs [00:29:37]:

How? How? Should've never did what he did.

Raphael Harry [00:29:40]:

The French guy knocked you out. It was like that kind of knockout where Chris, Chris Rock one of few times when she said, yeah. Knockout where Chris Rock. Well, he should've switched and said,

Corey Gumbs [00:29:50]:

you got nothing. Uh-huh. Fuck that.

Raphael Harry [00:29:52]:

Yeah. He did.

Corey Gumbs [00:29:53]:

It was embarrassing.

Raphael Harry [00:29:53]:

It was embarrassing. That should be a little repeat. We put that reel right there, Blake. Yeah. That was a good meme right there.

Corey Gumbs [00:29:59]:

Dog knockouts. Dog. Dog. Dog. Yeah. And I think he cut them too when he did it. Yeah. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:30:04]:

Heck.

Raphael Harry [00:30:04]:

I was like, yep.

Corey Gumbs [00:30:06]:

I just wanted to see Jon Jones.

Raphael Harry [00:30:07]:

I was like, good. You don't have Kids. I don't know if he has kids, but,

Corey Gumbs [00:30:10]:

I like to fight with the English fighter and the Russian.

Raphael Harry [00:30:12]:

Oh, yeah. The English and the Russian. That was a huge surprise to me too.

Corey Gumbs [00:30:15]:

No. It wasn't to me, though.

Raphael Harry [00:30:17]:

I don't know. The Russian guy, everybody seemed to you know, he I mean, he had a good fight. Intro.

Corey Gumbs [00:30:22]:

It's heavyweights, so you you know, heavyweights are always, like, 5050.

Raphael Harry [00:30:26]:

By the way, enough UFC. People can come here for that. Yeah. No. Yeah. UFC come sponsor the podcast. I hope you have to

Mimi Jacks [00:30:32]:

You need more black people Well,

Raphael Harry [00:30:34]:

I don't want to see. You have give me the Saudi Arabia money. I don't need your money. Give me Saudi money instead.

Mimi Jacks [00:30:39]:

Oh, let's go to a bathhouse.

Raphael Harry [00:30:41]:

Yeah. Yeah. Yep. But, yeah, it's been, and yeah. So I'm thankful for that experience, and I'm thankful for my MCU not being trashed like the other studio I won't mention in any.

Corey Gumbs [00:30:54]:

Well, some people would have a whole difference of opinion.

Raphael Harry [00:30:57]:

Did you see what if trailer season 2? Just came out today.

Corey Gumbs [00:31:01]:

No. I haven't seen it yet.

Raphael Harry [00:31:02]:

That's at the time of recording.

Mimi Jacks [00:31:04]:

I just watched the spider verse, so I'm, like, Way behind.

Raphael Harry [00:31:08]:

Okay. I don't know. Sony. So Sony did something today with your Madame Web movie Thriller, I don't I don't know who was. Sunny. Sunny. I mean, Sunny might wanna still sponsor me, so I'm I ain't gonna get mad at you guys. Because that's something that I I'm attending right now, so I'm might I'm in touch I might be in touch with some veterans who work there.

Raphael Harry [00:31:31]:

So yeah. Sony, I love you. That's all I have to say.

Corey Gumbs [00:31:36]:

I love you.

Mimi Jacks [00:31:38]:

I love you.

Raphael Harry [00:31:38]:

But, Yeah. I know how I feel about, them them Spidey movies from Sony. That's not the real Spider Man and Miles Morales because I saw the Madame Web trailer. I was like, goddamn, man. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:31:52]:

So I'm gonna go home. When I'm leaving here, I'm gonna go home and

Raphael Harry [00:31:55]:

check all of that stuff

Corey Gumbs [00:31:56]:

right now.

Raphael Harry [00:31:56]:

I mean, it it it looks better than Craven I mean, it's more interesting than Craven. Let me put it that way. I'm like, goddamn, man. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Why? Why, man? Why? Why, Sonny? Why? You know? You

Mimi Jacks [00:32:10]:

know? Ask why.

Corey Gumbs [00:32:11]:

Well, you know, they're trying to they got the party contract is coming up soon, so you gotta milk as much of it as possible.

Raphael Harry [00:32:18]:

Well, anyway, I'm thankful for the MCU because they I saw what if This is ensued. I'm like, oh, man. I don't care about variety hating. You can keep hating me.

Corey Gumbs [00:32:31]:

I think the whole Kang online with, Jonathan Majors was, like, really big from for the MCU.

Raphael Harry [00:32:40]:

Yeah. That that ain't a problem. Why you do recasting? Either you're casting or you go somebody. That ain't no problem.

Corey Gumbs [00:32:44]:

No. It would be a huge mistake for them to let him go. But Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:32:47]:

That's not a huge mistake. Anybody everybody is recastable. That's not that. I'm like

Corey Gumbs [00:32:52]:

No would be. No. Not everybody's not recastable. Look. Everybody's not recastable. I will tell you, like, you can recast Tony Stark.

Raphael Harry [00:32:59]:

You can recast Tony Stark.

Corey Gumbs [00:33:00]:

In 20 years, you can.

Raphael Harry [00:33:01]:

About 20 years?

Corey Gumbs [00:33:02]:

Yeah. 10 10

Raphael Harry [00:33:03]:

50 years. 20 years. But back Batman been recasted how many times?

Mimi Jacks [00:33:06]:

That's Batman. Who cares about Batman?

Raphael Harry [00:33:08]:

The his the movie that's like I've seen

Corey Gumbs [00:33:10]:

so many years. You can't recast them.

Raphael Harry [00:33:11]:

They're they're alright. Comic books keep You

Corey Gumbs [00:33:13]:

gotta wait till he's a old gray man. You gotta wait till Robert Downey Jr. He looks really old to recast Don't talk.

Raphael Harry [00:33:18]:

You need a deacon, holler at me.

Raphael Harry [00:36:36]:

Anytime I drive past Goya factory, I'm like, Man, Goya. I don't know if Goya understands what is done in Nigeria. Like, man, you know, until until I came to America, I realized that Goya was for cooking.

Corey Gumbs [00:36:50]:

What did you what did you think it was for?

Raphael Harry [00:36:52]:

It's like what's going on?

Corey Gumbs [00:37:36]:

We find out Puerto Ricans and and and and Latinos are trying to take over Nigeria.

Mimi Jacks [00:37:40]:

What is the holy oil?

Raphael Harry [00:37:42]:

Raphael Harry [00:38:04]:

I love conversations, ladies.

Corey Gumbs [00:38:06]:

I never heard this before, so it's like a

Raphael Harry [00:38:08]:

blessing. Sunday, that that churches started monopolizing the the anointing oil. Like, The bigger churches, you only buy from them. They will ban you from buying from right outside the church. You only buy from inside the church. Wow. Like, damn. Like, I I

Corey Gumbs [00:38:26]:

would like Goya, he still loves you too, Goya. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:38:28]:

Right. I still love Goya.

Mimi Jacks [00:38:29]:

I'm quite sure if you gave him some Like, I please, it'd be, like, come through.

Raphael Harry [00:38:33]:

The first time I drove past Goya factory, I took a photo and said I'll send it to my manager. Hey. Look. Look. Look what look what I see.

Mimi Jacks [00:38:44]:

Right? I'm in the whole clan.

Corey Gumbs [00:38:45]:

There must

Raphael Harry [00:38:46]:

have been one reason why

Corey Gumbs [00:38:47]:

Should've been a supermarket just take a picture of the whole Why why

Raphael Harry [00:38:50]:

Raphael Harry [00:39:02]:

to take 1 cap in your mouth. That's it. Ain't nobody cooking with it. Well, just yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:39:07]:

It's interesting.

Raphael Harry [00:39:08]:

Yeah. Because that's the anointed kings in in in the Bible. You know? The the king David and all them.

Corey Gumbs [00:39:14]:

I don't think they say in the Bible, they say Oh, you know? Hey.

Raphael Harry [00:39:17]:

I don't know. Somebody showed up with and said, this is straight from Israel. And, Whoops. That was it then. That was it. Israel Sanchez. Right? Not against the brand.

Corey Gumbs [00:39:31]:

Pedro Gonzalez.

Raphael Harry [00:39:34]:

All I know is Goya colonized the market, and, man, Well, what's up?

Corey Gumbs [00:39:39]:

And I and I bet they weren't even mad about it.

Raphael Harry [00:39:41]:

If they were even mad We just gonna send it. You just go, like, you guys need how how many? Going what? Do you need 10 containers? There you go. Alright. You pay alright. There you go.

Corey Gumbs [00:39:52]:

Raphael Harry [00:39:53]:

So, Yeah. So recently, I started seeing videos of Nigerians cooking. I'm like, oh, yeah. We use, olive oil. I'm like, wow. You guys do not use olive oil for cooking. Wow.

Corey Gumbs [00:40:01]:

They stepped the game up. Wow. That's, they're fancy now.

Raphael Harry [00:40:04]:

Oh, they are independent. Right?

Mimi Jacks [00:40:06]:

We got a ticket.

Corey Gumbs [00:40:07]:

That's independence. All the money at the weddings.

Mimi Jacks [00:40:12]:

Oh, god.

Raphael Harry [00:40:15]:

I'll send this to my classmate. He he gonna be mad. You

Corey Gumbs [00:40:18]:

know? No more whiskey for me.

Raphael Harry [00:40:22]:

Oh, man. Yeah.

Mimi Jacks [00:40:23]:

Oh, goodness.

Raphael Harry [00:40:24]:

Yeah. I'm thankful for all of you who found our freedom from you know, who who attend independence like myself and discovered it. You could use olive oil for other purposes or anointing oil as some of you know it.

Mimi Jacks [00:40:37]:

I'm thankful for our veterans. Yes.

Raphael Harry [00:40:40]:

You're allowed to, and now I can't stop using it all the time. Maybe I'm still anointing food. Who knows?

Corey Gumbs [00:40:45]:

Who knows? Oh, you're free. You can anoint your food now.

Raphael Harry [00:40:48]:

You can anoint your food. There's coconut oil. There's, Palm. The palm, palm oil is, we use it too much. That's Not

Mimi Jacks [00:40:55]:

Oh, that's

Raphael Harry [00:40:56]:

really special. Know what that is. It's not it's not really good for

Corey Gumbs [00:40:59]:

you. Yeah.

Mimi Jacks [00:40:59]:

Don't waste don't waste that

Corey Gumbs [00:41:00]:

palm oil.

Raphael Harry [00:41:01]:

Yeah. But we we

Corey Gumbs [00:41:02]:

You know what I know about palm oil. Shout out to Brian.

Raphael Harry [00:41:05]:

Oh, yeah. With palm oil, I use just a I use a little of it, but, if I eat at restaurants, that's when I eat palm oil. Not not at home. It's not it's not I suppose it gives you cholesterol and all that stuff. You know? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And it destroys the environment too.

Raphael Harry [00:41:19]:

More damage.

Corey Gumbs [00:41:20]:

Oh. Oh, yeah. Gotta be conscious

Raphael Harry [00:41:22]:

of that. Yeah. Yeah. Conscious. I mean, I'm not conscious of it when I'm meeting at the Ghanaian or Nigerian store. Oh, I cannot recall that,

Corey Gumbs [00:41:30]:

but moderation.

Raphael Harry [00:41:36]:

So, To wrap up, what's your favorite Thanksgiving meal or cuisine?

Mimi Jacks [00:41:45]:

That's a hard one. It's, you know, it's definitely all the sides. Mhmm. It's the Stuffing with the sausage in it. It's the sweet potatoes. It's the apple pie. I don't need the ham or the Turkey or the curry goat,

Raphael Harry [00:42:04]:

you know, depending on where

Mimi Jacks [00:42:05]:

you have Thanksgiving, you know, all that meat. The sides but, Corey, the sides are what's special.

Raphael Harry [00:42:10]:

Wait. Wait. Wait. Oh, you're not mistaken. We want for some You don't

Mimi Jacks [00:42:12]:

have curry goat at Thanksgiving?

Corey Gumbs [00:42:14]:

We're American.

Mimi Jacks [00:42:15]:

Are we, though?

Corey Gumbs [00:42:16]:

We're American.

Mimi Jacks [00:42:17]:

Are we? No. I mean, I enjoy it.

Raphael Harry [00:42:20]:

No to the curry goat. I don't know what Oh,

Corey Gumbs [00:42:22]:

I love curry goat. Don't get

Raphael Harry [00:42:23]:

me close, but I'm not discriminating. Well, I'll

Corey Gumbs [00:42:26]:

wait for my attorney now to talk.

Mimi Jacks [00:42:29]:

Well, my last few Thanksgivings

Raphael Harry [00:42:31]:

I mean, maybe I've been rolling with the Jamaicans a lot, but we've we

Mimi Jacks [00:42:34]:

had Quirico at Thanksgiving. Give me.

Corey Gumbs [00:42:36]:

You've been in Brooklyn too long.

Mimi Jacks [00:42:37]:

I mean but I mean

Raphael Harry [00:42:40]:

Yeah. I mean, I'm

Mimi Jacks [00:42:40]:

not gonna lie down. My leftovers, I want the leftovers.

Raphael Harry [00:42:43]:

Mhmm. Yes. I mean, the side dishes.

Mimi Jacks [00:42:45]:

I want the sweet potatoes, the stuffing, and the desserts.

Corey Gumbs [00:42:50]:

Yes.

Mimi Jacks [00:42:50]:

That's what I want.

Raphael Harry [00:42:52]:

We're we're there. Okay.

Corey Gumbs [00:42:53]:

Yeah. See? Me? Same thing. The dressing with the sausage. Mhmm. The one that cooks inside of the turkey, So it has all the flavor and

Mimi Jacks [00:43:03]:

the juices.

Corey Gumbs [00:43:04]:

Macaroni and cheese, sweet potato. Mhmm. The desserts. Mhmm. I mean, give me a plate of just the dressing and sausage and some macaroni and cheese. And ham, I gotta do the ham, but Yeah. The macaroni and cheese and a dressing and some sweet potatoes, and that's I mean, I'm very particular about my Thanksgiving. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:43:25]:

Because it's only one time a year, and I gotta have my eggnog. Oh, eggnog? I actually got my eggnog this week.

Mimi Jacks [00:43:32]:

Do you mean or do you mean eggnog?

Raphael Harry [00:43:34]:

Oh, both of them

Mimi Jacks [00:43:35]:

are actually You have to draw the line.

Corey Gumbs [00:43:36]:

No. There is no drawing of the line because I will be making my coquito within the next week or 2. But Alright. Bring it to

Mimi Jacks [00:43:42]:

Yes, sir. I want my

Corey Gumbs [00:43:43]:

Bring it.

Mimi Jacks [00:43:44]:

Bring it.

Corey Gumbs [00:43:46]:

That's just a special off-off podcast discussion. But, my eggnog Uh-huh. And, So funny story. My sister is vegan or whatever she is. In 1 year, I lost my I lost it because I came I came in the house. He had purple potatoes, and I'm like, listen. You could do this all year long. There's only 1 time in 2 times in the year you don't do this, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Mimi Jacks [00:44:10]:

Mhmm.

Corey Gumbs [00:44:11]:

That's the 2 days of the year that I look forward to having my traditional holiday meal. Don't play games with it. Right? So advice, don't play games with people.

Mimi Jacks [00:44:20]:

Don't try anything new at Thanksgiving either.

Corey Gumbs [00:44:22]:

You're right. So for me, it's definitely I'm not a big turkey fan. I made my 1st turkey

Mimi Jacks [00:44:29]:

last year. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:44:31]:

Yeah. Oh. I marinated it for 3 days, though.

Mimi Jacks [00:44:33]:

Oh, he was fancy with it.

Corey Gumbs [00:44:36]:

Yeah. It was probably it was I'm not a turkey fan, but I gotta I gotta toot my own handhorn on this one. It was really delicious, but what made it really, really good Uh-huh. Was the stuffing and the sausage that I left Sitting there, and it got the juices from the marinade.

Mimi Jacks [00:44:51]:

You let it sit in there

Corey Gumbs [00:44:52]:

with you both. Right?

Raphael Harry [00:44:54]:

Not like marinade.

Corey Gumbs [00:44:54]:

Dressing that good before in my life. So I have my I gotta perfect my technique. But

Mimi Jacks [00:44:59]:

Oh, so he's making turkey again this year for us? No.

Corey Gumbs [00:45:01]:

I'm not, but I'm gonna my technique.

Raphael Harry [00:45:05]:

We might make talking, but, yeah.

Mimi Jacks [00:45:08]:

I make really good roles. Like, those these ones that rise up.

Corey Gumbs [00:45:11]:

The roles are important too And thanksgiving. They're very important.

Mimi Jacks [00:45:15]:

From scratch.

Corey Gumbs [00:45:16]:

From scratch. You can leave all the veggies. Sometimes the meat too. I mean, I would I would take the curry goat, but Yeah. You know, I'm very traditional when it comes to my Thanksgiving dinner.

Mimi Jacks [00:45:25]:

Traditional. Bahamut. I was gonna ask you. Do you really celebrate Thanksgiving and giving, or do you celebrate dinner with the family?

Corey Gumbs [00:45:32]:

I celebrate Thanksgiving.

Mimi Jacks [00:45:33]:

I like dinner with the family.

Corey Gumbs [00:45:35]:

I'm not I keep my plate, and I go in my room. I'm thankful for my friends.

Mimi Jacks [00:45:42]:

The holidays, though.

Corey Gumbs [00:45:43]:

I'm thankful for football in my room Okay. And dinner. Okay. That's it. Mhmm. Everybody, you can keep everything else. I don't wanna see family and all that stuff.

Mimi Jacks [00:45:52]:

Oh, you don't wanna see

Corey Gumbs [00:45:53]:

No. I've only got 9, 10 grandkids. I don't wanna hear all that stuff.

Mimi Jacks [00:45:58]:

1 yeah. All the kids. But I mean, love the kids.

Corey Gumbs [00:46:05]:

I'm dead air on this one. Yeah.

Mimi Jacks [00:46:09]:

Well, you know, I don't really like The Gluttony and what are we really celebrating at Thanksgiving? But I do like the tradition of getting together with family. Yeah. You know? And seeing people and sharing recipes and food and stuff like that and, you know, playing Monopoly or playing, you know, like Well,

Raphael Harry [00:46:27]:

I need to come

Mimi Jacks [00:46:27]:

to me out surfing. Yeah. Yeah. I don't play games.

Raphael Harry [00:46:31]:

Yo. I go in

Corey Gumbs [00:46:31]:

my room. I don't know what happens after that. I play video games.

Raphael Harry [00:46:36]:

Well, well, I'm trying to learn how to play video games.

Mimi Jacks [00:46:38]:

We should have a friend's giving.

Raphael Harry [00:46:39]:

Yeah. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:46:41]:

Alright. You know what? Maybe next Yeah. We could do

Raphael Harry [00:46:42]:

that. BPA.

Mimi Jacks [00:46:43]:

A BPA friend.

Raphael Harry [00:46:44]:

I heard

Corey Gumbs [00:46:45]:

it's here first. Tickets will be on sale. Alright.

Raphael Harry [00:46:47]:

There's nothing. Tickets on sale.

Corey Gumbs [00:46:49]:

You had it here first.

Raphael Harry [00:46:51]:

Alright. So, what's 1 track that's, or 1 song that is the Thanksgiving feel for you one song that Thanksgiving. Yeah. That gives that summarizes Thanksgiving for you.

Corey Gumbs [00:47:09]:

So for me, Thanksgiving is the beginning of the Christmas season, so it's Christmas music. That's why

Raphael Harry [00:47:16]:

Do you listen to Mariah Carey?

Corey Gumbs [00:47:18]:

Yes? No. I'm alright. I listen to, like, Silver Bells and also classic classic Christmas carols.

Raphael Harry [00:47:25]:

Oh, you say traditional. I thought you were joking there. I guess you're serious.

Corey Gumbs [00:47:31]:

That's that's true. When I heard Christmas music the other day, I was like,

Raphael Harry [00:47:34]:

When is this blasphemy? It's not the time yet.

Mimi Jacks [00:47:37]:

We're always there.

Raphael Harry [00:47:38]:

I I know I know, a Puerto Rican who moved to, Pennsylvania, and he already got his Christmas tree up, like, no. I mean, some people

Corey Gumbs [00:47:48]:

do it right for my family. I grew up in a house where Thanksgiving was when we started

Raphael Harry [00:47:53]:

No. I said, like, last week. You already

Corey Gumbs [00:47:54]:

got the Christmas tree. Yeah. The weekend after Thanksgiving, the day of Thanksgiving is when we started Preparing for Christmas so we would get our Christmas tree for Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:48:01]:

That was different. They got their Christmas tree up, like, 1st week of November.

Corey Gumbs [00:48:06]:

I saw direct decorations up last week.

Mimi Jacks [00:48:09]:

Yo. People started decorating for Christmas at Halloween. They realized. Yeah.

Corey Gumbs [00:48:12]:

They let Halloween marinate for a minute. Like,

Mimi Jacks [00:48:14]:

oh, Like, give me my birthday. Yo. You cannot do any Christmas decorations.

Corey Gumbs [00:48:18]:

Candy from the store. You know? We gotta clarify that

Raphael Harry [00:48:21]:

out. Mhmm. You mean you got a song?

Mimi Jacks [00:48:25]:

I don't really have a song. I mean, why would I don't know? I don't have a song for Thanksgiving. I mean, I could think of the temptations or maybe James Brown. You know? Some good, you know James Brown. Some Motown music for when you're cooking in the Kitchen, you know, all the generations can listen to the same thing. But

Raphael Harry [00:48:43]:

Okay. Well, well, I'll have to think of something else. But Yeah.

Mimi Jacks [00:48:46]:

But if I, you know, if I was driving to the family, I might be, you know, I'd, like, fly.

Raphael Harry [00:48:53]:

You know? I'd be pumping

Mimi Jacks [00:48:54]:

some music. You know? I'm about to go hang out with a fam and beat them down. But

Raphael Harry [00:48:59]:

Okay. Okay.

Corey Gumbs [00:49:01]:

That's where I was going.

Mimi Jacks [00:49:03]:

No holiday music or anything.

Raphael Harry [00:49:05]:

Alrighty. Let's, wrap it up officially.

Mimi Jacks [00:49:08]:

Yes.

Raphael Harry [00:49:09]:

Thank you all for coming on the podcast for this fun episode. What's one thing you like to leave the audience with? One thing you're thankful for, or you like to leave the audience with, I guess?

Mimi Jacks [00:49:23]:

Well, one thing I'm thankful that I'd like to leave the audience with. I mean, feel free to speak your truth. I you know, I think a lot of people are just, you know, held down or, you know, you have, like, Filters on. So, you know, be thankful for who you are and be unashamed of that and just, you know, speak your truth. It's okay. You know, especially after a few glasses of whiskey, you know, at the family party. Whoo. That's gonna really set them off.

Mimi Jacks [00:49:54]:

But, yeah, you shouldn't have to, you know, hide who you are around the people who love you. So Be thankful for your family. Yeah.

Raphael Harry [00:50:02]:

Sorry. Sheesh.

Corey Gumbs [00:50:06]:

These questions, man.

Raphael Harry [00:50:08]:

Simple. I even write

Corey Gumbs [00:50:09]:

these questions down. Just just be thankful you made it this far. There are people who never made it this far. Yep. You know? There are people who thought they were gonna make it this far. They didn't. So whatever struggles, whatever things you have been through, Let it go Yeah. And be thankful that you made it to the point that you made it at, and hopefully, you'll make it further.

Corey Gumbs [00:50:28]:

But Mhmm. Let all that stuff go and enjoy yourself. Enjoy the rest of your life and yeah. Yeah.

Mimi Jacks [00:50:37]:

Not that serious. You're good.

Corey Gumbs [00:50:39]:

Yeah. Live your life. You know? You.

Raphael Harry [00:50:42]:

Alright. Let's please let the people know where they can find you And yeah.

Mimi Jacks [00:50:47]:

Absolutely.

Raphael Harry [00:50:49]:
